Descripción
There is a geometry in nature that no machine has ever replicated: the branching architecture of a feather quill — each barb extending from a central rachis, each barbule interlocking with the next. It is called pennaceous structure. This sweater is built from it.
Hand-beaded by Stacy Stewart Smith in New York City, the Pennaceous Beaded Boiled Wool Sweater with abbreviated flange drop shoulder details translates that organic geometry into glass and light. Each seed bead is placed individually by hand onto a ground of dense boiled wool — structured, warm, and substantial — in a pattern derived directly from the microscopic architecture of a feather. The surface catches light differently at every angle. No two sweaters are identical. The process is ongoing; the result is permanent.
The generously sized sweater appears deceptively simple. It is not. After each feather is embroidered in place, the garment then requires approximately 36 additional hours of couture hand-beading by the designer.
Peacock, rooster, and pheasant feathers emerge from the beading and throughout the front and back — each one placed by hand, each one secured for wear.

The sample is posed on a mannequin standing approximately 6'3" wearing a size Large.
