Description

A work of art, shared through the handwritten word. This ten-card gift set reproduces The Anointing, Stacy Stewart Smith’s 2002 self-portrait, for correspondence that feels personal and considered.

Each folded card carries the artwork on the front and the story of the work on the back, with a blank interior for your own message. Both red and white envelopes are included, so you can choose the finishing touch for a holiday greeting, a birthday, a thank-you, or an everyday note.

The set is presented in a matching box printed with The Anointing artwork, with tissue paper used as packing support. The box is wrapped in protective brown paper for shipping, keeping shipping tape off the printed presentation.

The set includes

  • Ten folded art reproduction note cards with blank interiors
  • Ten red envelopes and ten white envelopes
  • A matching artwork presentation box

A thoughtful gift for an art lover, or a distinctive addition to your own writing desk. Shipping is charged separately.

About the artwork

The Anointing is more than a self-portrait. It is a consecration, marking the moment the artist answered a divine call to ministry.

Portrayed in his late thirties, with his hair in twists, the artist wears a hood that evokes both a medieval knight’s chainmail and an inner-city hoodie: protection for a world that is not always safe. Built over months in oil and wax, its jewel-like color and layered red glazes give the figure a radiance that expresses spiritual conviction.

Fragments of family images, personal history, and printed words invite meanings beyond a single reading. A gold-plated crucifix and rhinestone tie pins transform the canvas into something approaching a reliquary. These are not decorations. They are offerings.

Here, the artist’s art form, Abstractrealism, was born: a meeting of the real and the imagined, not a gap to be closed, but a threshold to be inhabited.

Original work: oil, wax, mixed media, and found objects on canvas, 2002. Original canvas: 21.5 inches × 27 inches. This set contains printed reproductions, not the original painting.

Design

Every Stacy Stewart Smith piece begins as a drawing and ends as a decision — a deliberate choice of textile, construction method, and proportion made by a single designer with five decades of practice. The same eye that composes a painting composes a coat: line, weight, negative space, and the relationship between form and the body that inhabits it. Garments are produced in New York City, one at a time, to the measurements and preferences of the individual client. No two pieces are identical. No production run exists. This is not manufacturing — it is making.

The atelier sources textiles for their hand, weight, and longevity. Sustainability here is not a campaign. It is the natural consequence of making only what is wanted, from materials chosen to last, by a craftsman who will not put his name on anything less.
