Description

The Python & Denim Bellhop Jacket is an homage to the hotel livery of the Roaring '20s and early '30s — the moment when the bellhop's uniform was the sharpest thing in the lobby. Fashioned from 100% cotton denim with a slender, waist-length cut, the jacket features a customizable genuine python snake paneled front, an abbreviated mandarin collar with loop detail at the back, a metal neck clasp, side front pockets, and a double-sided zipper. The lining is a metallic nylon and Lurex lamé — customizable — for a shocking couture effect that reveals itself only when the jacket moves. Available in white and black.

A garment for the man who understands that the entrance is made before the coat comes off.

Body Size Reference

Use the body measurements below as the starting point. The sample measurements above describe the finished garment and are not body measurements. At 25" center-back length, this short jacket finishes above the hip; hip measurement does not determine size. For a size beyond 44 or a custom fit, select Preorder from the size menu.

Custom Size Preorder

Select Preorder from the size menu (the option without a listed size). Production is 15 to 30 days from receipt and payment clearance. A couture toile is draped from your measurements while materials are prepared. To begin your custom preorder, complete the Couture Client Measurement Form. The form requires registration, payment, and download, and serves as your client intake agreement. The $5.00 fee is non-refundable. Complete every field and return the completed form to couture@stacystewartsmith.com with your order number before production begins.

Measurements $5

First time clients must add the measurement form to the cart. Only one is needed for all items purchased.

The atelier reviews custom-size requests for fit and construction feasibility before production begins. If we need to discuss your request, we’ll contact you before proceeding.

Provenance & Delivery

Made to order in New York City. Shipped with a garment bag and an appropriate wooden hanger. Due to the bespoke nature of this garment, returns and exchanges are not accepted. Preorders are not refundable. Shipping insurance is strongly recommended.

Care

Spot clean with a damp cloth. Have professionally dry-cleaned by a leather and exotic skin specialist. Do not wet the snakeskin. Do not press or steam the jacket on the face side or on the snakeskin. Use a garment steamer on the reverse of the denim only to remove minor wrinkles. Use a soft garment brush to remove lint. Do not wear in rain or allow the jacket to become wet.

Care

Stacy Stewart Smith offers made-to-order garments, fine art, and digital publications — each requiring different care. Please refer to the product description for care and handling instructions specific to your purchase. For garments: dry clean or spot clean unless otherwise noted; do not machine wash. For fine art: keep away from direct sunlight and humidity; handle with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. For digital products and publications: no physical care required; download and archive your files upon receipt.

Design

Every Stacy Stewart Smith piece begins as a drawing and ends as a decision — a deliberate choice of textile, construction method, and proportion made by a single designer with five decades of practice. The same eye that composes a painting composes a coat: line, weight, negative space, and the relationship between form and the body that inhabits it. Garments are produced in New York City, one at a time, to the measurements and preferences of the individual client. No two pieces are identical. No production run exists. This is not manufacturing — it is making.

The atelier sources textiles for their hand, weight, and longevity. Sustainability here is not a campaign. It is the natural consequence of making only what is wanted, from materials chosen to last, by a craftsman who will not put his name on anything less.
