Description

Picasso painted Harlequin more than any other figure. Not as a clown. As a self-portrait. The diamond costume was the uniform of the outsider — the performer who moves between the circus and the salon, the masquerade and the street, belonging fully to neither and commanding both. The Knit, Sequin and Beaded Harlequin Blazer is built on that same duality: a garment that is equally at home at a formal dinner and a holiday party, that reads as evening wear from across the room and as something more considered up close.

The blazer is cut in a medium-weight stretch knit (62% rayon, 32% nylon, 6% spandex) — a construction that gives the silhouette its ease and its year-round wearability. The bound seam construction and fully lined sleeves and half inner front/back give it the finish of a formal garment without the rigidity of one. Across the front, PVC Fog and Onyx sequin and seed/bugle bead diamond appliqués are hand-stitched in a harlequin pattern — the same geometric motif that runs through the Diamond Dodger collection, here rendered in light-catching texture rather than woven tweed. In daylight, the appliqués read as a subtle geometric relief. Under evening light, they announce themselves. Handsome black leather buttons fasten the front and adorn the sleeves alongside patch pockets — a deliberately sporty counterpoint that keeps the blazer from reading as costume.

Single-breasted. Notched lapel. Padded shoulders. No vents. The silhouette is clean and the intention is clear: this is the blazer for the man who dresses for himself first and the occasion second — and finds that the occasion always rises to meet him.

Pair with the Black Knit Pleated Windsor Pants and the Silver Angels Hand-Painted Shirt for the complete ensemble.

Design

Every Stacy Stewart Smith piece begins as a drawing and ends as a decision — a deliberate choice of textile, construction method, and proportion made by a single designer with five decades of practice. The same eye that composes a painting composes a coat: line, weight, negative space, and the relationship between form and the body that inhabits it. Garments are produced in New York City, one at a time, to the measurements and preferences of the individual client. No two pieces are identical. No production run exists. This is not manufacturing — it is making.

The atelier sources textiles for their hand, weight, and longevity. Sustainability here is not a campaign. It is the natural consequence of making only what is wanted, from materials chosen to last, by a craftsman who will not put his name on anything less.
