Description
The Suede Paris Opera Cape is fashionably audacious — and unapologetically so. Cut in genuine pigskin suede — available in Onyx — prized for its durability, breathability, and distinctive open-pore grain, the cape features an asymmetrical closure, a high-low rounded hem, and soft padded shoulders with shoulder darts that create a trapezoidal silhouette. A suede fringed tassel flows from a chrome metal topper/clasp closure, making a bold statement at the throat. The mandarin collar unbuttons from the lining for an optional collarless look.
From within, front arm slits allow access to the outside and are secured with magnets and hooks. The wearer can wrap themselves in the cape by placing their hands into the lining pockets, or elegantly release the grasp of a button-on adjustable strap to whip the cape open. With a quick pull of metal-weighted self-string ties, the cape is off and handed to an attendant — to be secured on a hanger or on the chrome-toned metal chain in back. The cape is fully lined in a rhombus-geometric acetate jacquard in rose-gray and black — the perfect warmer over a slim suit or sweater. Construction & Materials
Genuine pigskin suede in Onyx (durable, breathable, open-pore grain). Fully lined in rhombus-geometric acetate jacquard (rose-gray and black). Chrome metal topper/clasp closure with suede fringed tassel. Mandarin collar (removable from lining). Button-on adjustable strap. Front arm slits with magnet-and-hook closure. Chrome-toned metal chain hanger in back. Soft padded shoulders with shoulder darts. Lining and hardware subject to availability and substitutions. Custom Size Preorder
Select Preorder from the size menu (the option without a listed size). Production is 15 to 30 days from receipt and payment clearance. We drape a couture toile from your measurements while materials are prepared. To begin your custom preorder, complete the Couture Client Measurement Form. The form requires registration, payment, and download, and serves as your client intake agreement. The $5.00 fee is non-refundable. Complete every field and return the completed form to couture@stacystewartsmith.com with your order number before production begins.
First-time clients must add the measurement form to the cart. Only one is needed for all items purchased.

Provenance & Delivery
Made to order in New York City. Shipped in a gift box with garment bag, extra buttons, and a wooden hanger. Due to the bespoke nature of this garment, returns and exchanges are not accepted. Preorders are not refundable. Shipping insurance is strongly recommended.
Care
Consult a professional suede or leather care specialist. Do not press on the face side. Use a garment steamer on a low setting from the reverse side to remove wrinkles. Improper care may damage the pigskin suede surface.
Care
Stacy Stewart Smith offers made-to-order garments, fine art, and digital publications — each requiring different care. Please refer to the product description for care and handling instructions specific to your purchase. For garments: dry clean or spot clean unless otherwise noted; do not machine wash. For fine art: keep away from direct sunlight and humidity; handle with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. For digital products and publications: no physical care required; download and archive your files upon receipt.

Every Stacy Stewart Smith piece begins as a drawing and ends as a decision — a deliberate choice of textile, construction method, and proportion made by a single designer with five decades of practice. The same eye that composes a painting composes a coat: line, weight, negative space, and the relationship between form and the body that inhabits it. Garments are produced in New York City, one at a time, to the measurements and preferences of the individual client. No two pieces are identical. No production run exists. This is not manufacturing — it is making.
The atelier sources textiles for their hand, weight, and longevity. Sustainability here is not a campaign. It is the natural consequence of making only what is wanted, from materials chosen to last, by a craftsman who will not put his name on anything less.
