Atelier Quarterly is a menswear couture magazine — written, designed, illustrated, and published by Stacy Stewart Smith. Each volume makes the argument that couture belongs to men, and that the well-dressed man is not following fashion. He is reforming it.
Part editorial, part manifesto, part atelier journal, every issue moves from the philosophy of the craft to the garments themselves — the coats, the trousers, the accessories, and the hands that make them. This is fashion as wearable, collectable art.
From the Editor
Vol. II exists because Vol. I asked a question and did not fully answer it. The question is whether menswear couture — true couture, made by hand, made to measure, made with the same intention as the great houses of Paris — belongs to men the way it has always belonged to women. My answer is yes. Vol. II makes that argument in full: in the essays, in the garments, in the spreads, and in the construction details. It is the most complete statement I have made as a designer. — Stacy Stewart Smith
A Sample from Vol. II
"Couture, then, is not the opposite of comfort — it is the opposite of indifference."
"We are walking perpetually on an invisible fashion runway with or without an audience."
"Couture quality is a craft that exists in the light and not the shadow of the legal title."
— From the Menswear Couture Manifesto, Atelier Quarterly Vol. II
Vol. II — Couture Reformation

The second volume opens behind a Wedgwood Blue door on Chicago’s South Side and builds, across 66 pages, into a full argument for menswear couture as an artform.

- Why Windsor Pants? — On the Duke of Windsor, the wide leg, and the return of the considered trouser.

- The Gift Gallery — Couture accessories as objects of art and intention.
- A Beautiful Life: Couture Coverings in Black — On the coats, the linings, and the architecture of warmth.
